WebsitesA managed website, or a custom website you own.

We run a managed website for a monthly fee, or we build a custom website you own. An online store is its own project on Shopify. Search setup is the first part of SEO. We are a Buffalo studio.

Help me chooseAnswer a few questions. We will suggest a next step.

1. Do you sell products online, with a cart?

2. Who should make everyday changes to the site?

3. How would you rather pay?

4. How many pages do you need?

5. Do you need a sign-in for customers, or a link between tools you already use?

Custom websiteA custom website you own

A site built in your brand, with hosting and the domain in your own accounts. You own the site and the code, and we document how it is built so you, or anyone you hire later, can pick it up.

How it’s pricedA custom website is for work outside a managed plan's limits, or anything built for you alone. Each one is scoped and priced as its own project, in writing, before work starts.

What’s included

  • Design and page templates in your brand
  • Hosting, domain and https in your own accounts
  • Performance and security review
  • Documentation of how the site is built

A typical estimate. The real timeline depends on the scope.

After launchMonthly help for a custom website

After launch, a custom website can stay on month to month: patches, backups, monitoring, new pages as the business changes, and a quarterly refresh of what is already on the site. It includes a look at Search Console, which is Google's report of how people find the site. Cancel whenever you like. This is not an SEO retainer. It does not include link building, which means paying other sites to link to yours. Your domain, content, and data stay yours. On a custom website, the site and the code stay yours too. The same monthly support is available for an online store.

A managed website already includes hosting, security updates, backups, uptime monitoring, and your monthly edit time. The quarterly content refresh and the search review in this list are for a custom website. Growth adds a monthly report of edits and uptime, and a quarterly review call.

  • Updates and security patches
  • New pages, products and campaigns
  • A content refresh every quarter
  • Ongoing search and visitor stats review
  • Email about the site
Support terms

Add-onsSearch setup and content

Each one has its own written scope and price. Add it to a managed website, a custom website, or an online store, or book it on its own.

Content

2–4 weeksAsk about content

Content is the words for the site and for campaigns, in the same tone, plus photos and short video of your products, space, and people. Google can read the words. A page of photos with nothing written next to them is a weak page, so the words go with the pictures. Before a shoot we agree a written shot list, so you know what will be photographed and filmed. The words, photos, and video are yours.

  • Words for the pages on the site
  • Words for email and social campaigns
  • Photos of your products, space, and people
  • Short video for the site and social
  • A written shot list before any shoot, and files you can reuse

On its own: Book the words or a shoot without a new website.

QuestionsQuestions about a custom website

How is a custom website priced?

There is no set starting price. A custom website is for work built for you alone, or anything beyond a managed website, so each one is scoped and priced as its own project, in writing, before any work starts. Changes to the scope are written down too.

Can I start on a managed website and own it later?

Yes. Once the build fee is paid, each managed plan has a set buyout price: $3,155 for Essentials, $5,355 for Professional and $7,855 for Growth at launch, and lower with every monthly payment. The working is on the managed website plans page.

Who owns a custom website?

You do: the accounts, the site and the code.

Can you work on the site I already have?

Yes. Search setup, the first part of SEO, works on the site you have. After-launch support, including an ongoing search review, is available for a website we did not build, after a short review.

What if I need an online store?

An online store is a separate project on Shopify. We are a Shopify Partner. It is priced per job, the same way as a custom website, with the scope and the price in writing before work starts.

ContactWhich one should we start with?

Tell us about the business and where it is now. We will say whether a managed website, a custom website, an online store, or a web app comes first.
